Aleksandr Emelianenko Claims Fourth MMA Victory In A Row

Russian fighter Aleksandr Emelianenko defeats Latvian kickboxer Konstantin Glukhov in main fight of the M-1 mixed martial arts challenge in Moscow.

Aleksandr Emelianenko, MMA fighter (speaking Russian):

“I liked the fact he showed so much heart and courage. At every opportunity he was looking for a big punch and missed. It always takes a lot of energy from you. So I got him exhausted to-to-toe, and what is important, I showed him, I was even better at striking then took him to the ground which was also tough for him.

I was often on the edge in this fight. You saw all those hefty punches swinging over my head, didn't you? I even got the sniffles, you see? It feels like I'm going to start coughing tomorrow.

Having Fedor in my corner is great. It helps a lot in all respects. Do you want to know why I was so much better than Konstantin tonight? That's because there were two of us fighting against him. My elder brother was with me.”

Fedor Emelyanenko, MMA legend (speaking Russian):

“I'm sure Aleksandr can do much better. Sometimes he was a bit too cautious just taking chances, sometimes - vice versa - he was too risky in the fight. So, his performance was not flawless. He can do great things in the ring but his best lies ahead.”

Story

Aleksandr Emelianenko's ascent back to the top of the mixed martial arts ranks continued in Moscow on Saturday.

The Russian, known as the Grim Reaper, claimed his fourth win in a row in Moscow after one of the most brutal events in M-1 Challenge history.

He remains one of the best pair of hands in the heavyweight division, and on Sunday night Emelianenko proved that in style.

The main event of the M-1 Challenge tournament held in the Russian capital saw the 31-year old face the dangerous striker Konstantin Glukhov.

Latvia's world and European kickboxing champion may be much less adept in the ground game- though Emelianenko was far from chasing a takedown.

“I liked the fact he showed so much heart and courage. At every opportunity he was looking for a big punch and missed. It always takes a lot of energy from you. So I got him exhausted to-to-toe, and what is important, I showed him, I was even better at striking then took him to the ground which was also tough for him,” he said.

When it comes to this weight division, every single punch can be the decider. Although Emelianenko simply outclassed his opponent in striking reminding everybody of what he's known for: fast and powerful hands and a surprisingly easy-going attitude.

“I was often on the edge in this fight. You saw all those hefty punches swinging over my head, didn't you? I even got the sniffles, you see? It feels like I'm going to start coughing tomorrow,” Aleksandr said.

Glukhov, however, would wish that a tickly throat was the least of his problems - his courage and will giving his a chance to survive in the fight and make it to the final bell. The outcome was crystal clear before that though. A unanimous-decision victory for Aleksandr, who revealed what gave him an extra edge in the bout.

“Having Fedor in my corner is great. It helps a lot in all respects. Do you want to know why I was so much better than Konstantin tonight? That's because there were two of us fighting against him. My elder brother was with me,” the fighter said.

MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko believes the best fights of his younger brother are yet to come.

“I'm sure Aleksandr can do much better. Sometimes he was a bit too cautious just taking chances, sometimes - vice versa - he was too risky in the fight. So, his performance was not flawless. He can do great things in the ring but his best lies ahead.”

It's already the fourth consecutive win for Aleksandr Emelianenko, who continues his comeback to the MMA summit. On the 15th of November, he will face one of the world's best wrestling specialists Jeff Monson a true test of how far he has come.
