Russian Ninjas Learn Ninja Techniques From Japan

Martial arts students in Moscow learn ninja techniques from Japan, which focus on inner harmony as much as on physical technique and fighting ability.

One does not need to move to Japan to become a Ninja.

Students of the Russian Ninja martial art school learn to use all types of Ninja weaponry, from traditional swords to war fans with super-sharp edges. But along with fighting, Russian Ninjas learn that philosophy and harmony are among the most important things for any warrior.

Sergey Trofimov, founder of Ninja school speaking Russian: “People come over here and we are practicing Ninjutsu depending on their skills. I don’t prepare them for competition, where a judge can stop them at any moment, but I teach martial arts for fighting and as the art itself.”

Alexandr Vokovsky speaking Russian: “I’ve chosen a Japanese blowpipe, Fukiya, although it is not the main ninja weapon. In our school we are using any kind of ninja equipment.”

Sofia speaking Russian: “Tessen is a Japanese war fan with very sharp plates. It could even cut down a carotid artery or rival‘s forehead. Blood flooded into his eyes and made him almost blind so that he could barely defend himself, since the blood is not water, it cannot be easily removed.”

Sergey Trofimov, founder of Ninja school speaking Russian:  “Shinobi gatana – the sword used by Ninjas. It has got short blade, and the blade is extremely sharp.”

Story

Moscow school of Ninja martial art Shinobi, also known as Ninjutsu, was founded by teacher Sergey Trofimov.

As well as a school for martial arts, Ninjutsu is also a sparring gym and home to Sergey’s personal museum.

“People come over here and we are practicing Ninjutsu depending on their skills. I don’t prepare them for competition, where a judge can stop them at any moment, but I teach martial art for fighting and as the art itself,” says Sergey.

Originally Ninjutsu is a total training of the warrior in various fighting arts – unarmed combat, sword fighting, shurikens ("throwing stars"), but it also includes knowledge of meteorology, geography and, of course, philosophy.

Ninja weapons are so numerous, that most people can find something to match their taste.

“I’ve chosen a Japanese blowpipe, Fukiya, although it is not the main ninja weapon. In our school we are using any kind of ninja equipment,” says Alexandr Vokovsky.

Despite the emphasis on fighting, the school attracts women as well as men.

Ninja fighting techniques could make a lethal adversary out of a graceful Japanese beauty. Sofia fights already quite well with a war fan.

“Tessen is a Japanese war fan with very sharp plates. It could even cut down a carotid artery or rival‘s forehead. Blood flooded into his eyes and made him almost blind so that he could barely defend himself, since the blood is not water, it cannot be easily removed,” Sofia says.

But the sword still remains the most important weapon for Ninjas. But Sergey Trofimov warns everyone: “Shinobi gatana – the sword used by Ninjas. It has got a short blade, and the blade is extremely sharp”.
